Here are my selections:

5 Units New York Jets OVER 43 +100

West meets East Sunday. The Niners topped the Arizona Cardinals 31-28 in overtime Sunday behind Tim Rattay who threw two touchdown passes late in the fourth quarter and Todd Peterson who kicked a 32-yard field goal early in OT. Rattay completed a franchise-record 38-of-57 passes for 417 yards for the 49ers (1-4 SU, 3-2 ATS). Kevan Barlow ran for a team-high 34 yards on 14 carries. But this defense is bad and banged up, losing All-Pro linebacker Julian Peterson this week (surgery to repair his torn Achilles). Peterson's injury is another obstacle for the 49ers' beleaguered defense, which has allowed an NFL-worst 137 points. CB Mike Rumph probably will miss the rest of the season with a broken arm, while a dozen more contributors also have significant injuries. The defense is allowing 27 points per game and San Fran is 0-2 SU on the road where they are getting outscored by a 32-14 average! The Jets (4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS) defeated the Buffalo Bills 16-14 on Doug Brien's 38-yard field goal with 58 seconds remaining. QB Chad Pennington completed 31-of-42 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown. This offense is rolling (134 yds rushing, 225 passing pg) behind Pennington, RB Curtis Martin and Wayne Chrebet. Although, WR Santana Moss (hamstring) is questionable. Drew Bledsoe kept the Bills close with his long throws last week when Rattay was setting passing records for the Niners. The 49ers defensive problems could make for a high scoring battle.

7 Units Philadelphia Eagles -9.5 -105

Tough spot for the slumping Carolina Panthers (1-3 SU, 2-2 ATS). Carolina coach John Fox loves defense and ball control offense, but his run defense is allowing 159 yards per game, second worst in NFL. And the running game is getting just 88 yds per game, banged up with injuries to Stephen Davis (off knee surgery) and DeShaun Foster (broken collarbone). Davis may be back for this game. Davis has practiced for three days and is expected to return to the starting lineup, but on Thursday, though, coach Fox said Davis was still questionable. The Panthers are 4-0 UNDER the total this season and 14-6 UNDER the total on the road the last 20 road contests. And there's more bad news: Carolina Pro Bowl DT Kris Jenkins {shoulder sugery} is out. This is a revenge spot for the home team, as Carolina upset Philly 14-3 on this field in the NFC Championship game. Philadelphia (4-0 SU/ATS) is off a bye week, and they are 5-0 SU/4-1 ATS the last 5 years off the bye. The offense is averaging 26.8 points, 387 yards (112 rushing, 275 passing), while the tough 'D' is allowing just 13.8 points and 89 yds rushing, 236 passing allowed per game. QB Donovan McNabb (68% completions, 9 TDs, one INT) is having an MVP season with addition of WR Terrell Owens and the improved play of versatile RB Brian Westbrook (351 yards, 5.5 ypc). Counting the playoffs last season, the Eagles are 14-3 against the spread their last 17 games and 17-3 SU its last 20 games! Revenge will be sweet against the one-year wonder Panthers.

5 Units Cleveland Browns -2.5 -110

Both these teams are off humbling losses to Pittsburgh. The Bengals (1-3 Su, 0-4 ATS) have had two weeks to prepare and need it, especially on defense. Lost in the shuffle of an upbeat 2003 season was the fact that Cincinnati was 28th in total defense and allowed 4.8 yards per rush. This season, they are even worse, allowing 165 yards rushing each game and 5.16 ypc! The offense has talent and is getting better behind young QB Carson Palmer, but this is clearly a rebuilding and retooling year for the Bengals. Cincinnati is 0-2 SU/ATS on the road where the defense is giving up 30 points pg. Cleveland (2-3 SU/ATS) isn't much better, especially on offense (263 total yards per game, 30th in the NFL). But QB Jeff Garcia (one TD, 4 INTs) and RBs Lee Suggs and William Green should be able to ground out large chunks of yardage against Cincy's suspect line. There were some minor fireworks in the Cleveland practice this week, as Coach Butch Davis called QB Garcia "skittish." Garcia replied, "Until he (Davis) plays QB, he can't understand where I'm coming from." A challenge? Or an unhappy team? 4 of the last 5 games between these teams went UNDER the total, including both meetings last year.

3 Units Chicago Bears UNDER 33 -108

Dee-Fense, Dee-Fense! That will be the story of this game as they are a combined 7-2 UNDER the total. A crushing blow to the Redskins (1-4 SU, ATS) when they lost to the Ravens 17-10 after leading 10-0 at the half. Mark Brunell was 13-of-29 for 83 yards and a touchdown in the loss. He was picked off by Deion Sanders early in the fourth quarter, an interception that set up a Baltimore field goal. RB Clinton Portis gained just 53 yards on 25 carries for the Redskins, who picked up just 107 yards on offense. That's the lowest total for a Washington team since 1961. LB LaVar Arrington missed his third straight game following knee surgery and is still a couple of weeks away from playing. The Bears (1-3 SU, 2-2 ATS) come off their bye week. Two weeks ago they fell 19-9 to the Eagles when QB Jonathan Quinn managed to complete 26-of-43 passes for 215 yards and a late touchdown for the Bears. Quinn was making his first start in nearly three years, as he took over for QB Rex Grossman, who is lost for the season with a knee injury. Neither team has been able to put up points consistently. The Skins are 4-1 UNDER while the Bears are 3-1 UNDER heading into this game. The numbers say it all, so look for a defensive slugfest.

5 Units Pittsburgh Steelers +3 -110

5 Units Pittsburgh Steelers OVER 38.5 +100

The Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) are doing fine behind rookie QB Ben Roethlisberger. The offense is balanced, which takes pressure off the kid. The offense is averaging 22 points, 137 yards rushing (6th in NFL), 181 passing pg with the help of RB Duce Staley (489 yards, 4.5 ypc.) Last week in the win over the Browns, Staley had his third straight 100-yd rush day. On the other hand, Pittsburgh has had an easy schedule. They beat the Raiders (24-21), Bengals, Dolphins and Browns, and got smacked by the Ravens in a 30-13 defeat. The Dallas Cowboys (2-2 SU/ATS) are off a stinker, losing 26-10 at home to the Giants. The Dallas defense was No. 1 in the NFL last season, but this year they’re 20th in total defense, allowing 22.8 points, 334 total yards per game (122 rushing, 211 passing). The offense has been terrific through the air (254 yards passing per game), but just 16.8 points per contest. Essentially, they've been sloppy and bumbling in the red zone. Parcells said after the defeat Sunday, "If you have a team that needs a momentum creation to play well, then you probably haven't got a very good team." With all the strong wide receivers on the field, this might be a higher scoring game than expected.

10 Units Denver Broncos -1.5

Denver has the No. 1 defense in pro football allowing just 240 total yards and 14.8 points per game. Denver (4-1 SU, 1-2-1 ATS) is 1-1 SU/0-1-1 ATS on the road. The Broncos found another new RB hero Sunday when RB Reuben Droughns ran for 193 yards and QB Jake Plummer threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Ashley Lelie with 9:42 left, leading Denver to a 20-17 victory over Carolina. Plummer finished 17-of-29 for 226 yards and two scores but was also intercepted twice, including a crucial pick by Julius Peppers in the third quarter that led to a Jake Delhomme one-yard touchdown run that put the Panthers ahead 17-13. Denver's offensive line has allowed just three sacks in the first five games and cleared the way for a 4.16 ypg rushing average. The Raiders (2-3) are not as sharp defensively, allowing 158 and 150 rushing yards the last two games against the Texans and Colts (both losses). The Raiders took a 35-14 pounding in Indianapolis Sunday. QB Kerry Collins ended 28-of-44 for 245 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. WR Jerry Rice went without a catch for the second time this season. Peyton Manning completed 16-of-26 passes for 198 yards with three touchdowns to lead Indianapolis so Jake Plummer has a blueprint for this week's game. Collins keeps coming up with those very untimely interceptions, not something you want to do against Denver's terrific secondary behind newcomer CB Champ Bailey.

15 Units Minnesota Vikings -3.5 -105

There should be a lot of points this game as both teams are terrible defensively. New Orleans is 28th in the NFL in total defense, while Minnesota is 31st. The Vikings, coming off a bye week, blew a 21-point lead before Daunte Culpepper's fifth touchdown pass of the game -- a 50-yard strike to Marcus Robinson in overtime -- lifted Minnesota (3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS) to a 34-28 win over the Houston Texans Sunday. Culpepper finished 36-of-50 for 396 yards while Randy Moss and Marcus Robinson each had a pair of TD catches. Mewelde Moore chipped in with 92 yards on 20 carries and 90 yards on 12 catches. Minnesota had 510 total yards to Houston's 410. The Vikings are No. 1 in total offense in the NFL with 444 yds per game. New Orleans' Deuce McAllister returned from a two-game absence because of an ankle sprain and finished with 102 rushing yards on 21 carries for the Saints (2-3 SU, 1-4 ATS), who suffered their third straight loss to the Bucs, 20-17. QB Aaron Brooks completed just 11-of-26 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns, including one to Joe Horn. Giving up 410 yards to the Texans doesn't bode well for the Minnesota defense but when Cuplpepper and Company can light up the board for over 500 yards of offense, another high scoring shootout seems imminent. Minnesota won the last meeting in 2002 32-31 in New Orleans as a 7-point dog. Both teams lean towards the OVER, Minny is 3-1 OVER while New Orleans is 3-2 OVER.

15 Units St Louis Rams -6.5 -104

Brian Griese came off the bench to throw for 194 yards and a touchdown to lead Tampa Bay to a 20-17 win over New Orleans last Sunday. Griese completed 16-of-19 passes in relief of Chris Simms for the Buccaneers (1-4 SU, 1-3 ATS), who snapped a four-game losing streak. Ken Dilger caught a 45-yard TD pass and Ronde Barber returned a fumble for a score. Griese replaced Simms, who left late in the first quarter with a shoulder injury for Tampa Bay, which scored 10 straight points to end the second quarter and go ahead 13-7 at halftime. Michael Pittman ran for 51 yards on 15 carries and caught five passes for 29 yards for Tampa Bay. For Tampa Bay, QB Brian Griese will start this game. QB Marc Bulger led the Rams who scored 23 points in the final 8:36 of the game to take an improbable 33-27 victory over the previously unbeaten Seattle Seahawks in overtime Sunday. The Seahawks held a seemingly-comfortable 27-10 lead with just over 5 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. But Bulger, who finished 24-of-42 for 325 yards with three scores and three interceptions, brought the Rams (3-2 SU, 2-3 ATS) roaring back. The Rams have no shortage of quality offensive threats and will air it out against the Bucs who are averaging just 14 ppg while giving up 17. The Buccaneers are searching for an offensive leader and might have found one in Griese, but their defense will be severly tested by St. Louis. Tampa is (1-4 Unders) while Rams manage a (3-2 OVER) log. The Rams are 9-2 SU, 6-4-1 ATS their last 11 home games.
